AQHYA held its American Quarter Horse Youth Association's Youth Excellence Seminar andLeadership Conference., (YES) June 24-26 in Amarillo, Texas. This was my second year attending. I had such a great time last year; Icould hardly wait to go again. Youth from all 11 AQHA regions traveled toAmarillo, toparticipate in this fun filled weekend. My travel companion was Alyssa Freitas. We met up with Marge and Jocelyn Tanner, and Brandon Courier once in Amarillo. This is the second year Marge has chaperoned MassQHA youth. She and Jocelyn knowthe area well and showed us many local attractions like Cadillac Ranch whereyou can spray paint “planted” Cadillacs, and pet the Hooters’Horse. They also know all the best places to shop! Thank you Margeand Joce! Although thisyears’ conference was smaller than the previous year, it was stillnonetheless an incredible time. The YES Conference helps youth developleadership skills and allows the opportunity to meet and make many friends fromacross the country. This year’s YES speakers included Grant Baldwin andDaniel Stewart. A variety of topics were discussed in a totally fun way. We were presented with the facts of unwanted horses and thoughtful ways of howAQHA and everyone can help with this problem. The electionof Regional Directors occurred in Amarilloand after much campaigning, speeches and voting we now have our new andre-elected directors. AQHYA also held their new National officerelections during this event. While sadly saying goodbye to the officers of lastyear, Cait Kerber, Jocelyn Tanner, Rachel Pendergraft, Brent Dorn, and AlisonCeresani, we welcomed in new officers. The new officers for 2010-2011 arePresident, Dakota Diamond Griffith; Vice President, Brooke Ingstad; Secretary,Leah Thomas; Treasurer, Rachel Pendergraft; and Sentinel, Britt Lynch. GoodLuck to those officers who have served their last year as a youth, we wish youthe best. One of thehighlights of the conference is the tour of AQHA Headquarters, AQHA museum andHall of Fame. Have you ever thought about just how much goes onthere? Lots! Throughout the Headquarters are beautiful paintings ofour favorite breed. At the museum are gorgeous life size statues ofQuarter Horses, a variety of artifacts from famous Quarter horses, even a realracing starting gate.
Festivities wrapped up Saturday night with a SummerFun Dance at the Civic Center. YES trulyoffers an amazing experience and any Quarter Horse youth member has the opportunityto go. Friends that are separated by many miles unite for an unforgettable timecentered around the
Quarter Horse. I already cannot wait for nextyear’s
conference! JustineAndersonMassQHYAReporter Picturesattached.Yes1, left toright Alyssa Freitas, Brandon Courier, Justine AndersonYes2, Region

Jackson Land & Cattle LLC and Fields Family Foundation Support the AQHA Youth World Show Assistance Program
The American Quarter Horse Journal, February 5, 2009 – Support from the Fields Family Foundation and Jackson Land & Cattle, a Jackson Hole, Wyoming, ranch, has made it possible for many qualified youth participants to attend the Ford AQHYA World Championship Show.
Through the Youth World Show Assistance Program, the Fields Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization created by Richard Fields, owner of Jackson Land & Cattle, awards need-based monetary grants to qualified youths. Since its inception in 2005, the program has helped about 170 AQHYA members make it to the “big show.D Because of Jackson Land & Cattle, young riders like Alyson Rehm of Sultan, Washington, are able to see their hard work and training pay off. Alyson was the 2007 barrel racing reserve world champion.
The benefits of attending the Ford Youth World Show extend well beyond the accumulation of awards or titles. Involvement with the American Quarter Horse Youth Association gives young people a unique way to gain
responsibility and accountability. There is just something about the horse that helps transform youths into compassionate, confident adults.
“It gives me great pleasure to provide scholarships to young, aspiring riders through the AQHYA Youth World Show Assistance Program,” said Fields. “The children of today are our most precious resource, and Jackson Land & Cattle is pleased to continue to fund the Youth World
Show Assistance Program for 2009.”
Jackson Land & Cattle, located on more than 2,000 acres, is a top-quality cattle and horse operation that has been a working ranch for more than a century. Jackson Land & Cattle is dedicated to preserving the agricultural tradition and the values it instills in youth. Fields and his ranch also are proud supporters of the Jackson Hole High School Rodeo Club and the Teton County 4-H group.
“AQHA appreciates Jackson Land & Cattle’s continued generosity in support of AQHA youth members with the assistance program,” said AQHA Director of Youth Activities and Educational Programs Ward Stutz. “Its
ongoing efforts to enrich the lives of American youths through the benefits of horse involvement are tremendous. We would also like to thank the youth advisors for spreading the word about the assistance
program.”
To apply for the Jackson Land & Cattle Youth World Show Assistance Program, youths need only to fill out an application. Applications are available through youth advisors or can be downloaded from www.aqha.com/youth. You can also email Christine Lloyd, youth advisor, at lloydsoffh199@aol.com with any questions
