Massachusetts Selection for the NEQHA Team Tournament
YOUTH TEAM SELECTION:
To be selected by the Show Team Youth Advisor, the MQHYA Officers and
Directors and approved by the MQHA President and the MQHA Board of Directors,
adhering to the following guidelines:
STATE
TEAM QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFYING PERIOD THROUGH OUT THIS GUIDELINE IS MAY 1 of PREVIOUS YEAR
TO MAY 15 of CURRENT YEAR
(A) To be
eligible for the state qualified team, the Youth must:
1. Attend a minimum of 2 meetings held during the qualifying period
2. Participate in 50% of the Youth Fund raising events held during the
qualifying period
3. Be a member of MQHYA AND a member of AQHYA in good standing by May
31 of the current year.
4. Must have exhibited in a minimum of three (3) MQHA pointed shows with
the horse they intend to show at the QH Congress, during the qualifying
period.
STATE
TEAM SELECTION PROCESS
(A) Each team is allowed 3 exhibitors per event and 10 entries for the
Stall Decorating Contest. (Showmanship, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure,
Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, Trail, Small Fry Showmanship, Small Fry
Horsemanship are the current events offered).
(1) Any Youth
interested in being on the State Team must send a Letter of Intent by
May 15th in writing and must submit his/or her list of class choices by
preference and must be signed by a parent.
(2) Each
Team member meeting the Qualifying Guidelines may be placed on the Massachusetts
Congress Team, by choosing his/her first choice event, approved by the
Advisor. After ALL Team Participants are placed on the team, then any
remaining events will be filled using the same system.
(3) When
more than two (2) Youth apply for any class;
(a) The Youth Advisor will attempt to resolve the conflict. This will
be based on MQHA points from MQHA shows held during the qualifying period.
Youth must be a MQHYA member for the show points to count.
If that is not possible, the top two (2) exhibitors applying for the class
will qualify.
(b) If the tie is still unbroken, preference will be given to the Youth
who has participated in more of the meetings and fundraisers during the
qualifying period.
(c) If the tie is still unbroken, AQHA points will be used during the
qualifying period.
(4) This
system will be strictly adhered to, with no exceptions:
(a) If a change is deemed necessary through unusual circumstances, the
change must be presented by the Show Team Youth Advisor and parent, then
reviewed by the MQHA Board of Directors before any such change is made.
STATE
TEAM POLICIES
(A) In the instance a youth does not participate on a team that they had
accepted a position on, they shall submit a written explanation of their
action concerning that team to the Youth Advisor and Youth Association
President within two weeks after the final date of the event they were
to participate in. This excuse will be reviewed by the Youth Executive
Committee. If the Youth Executive Committee deems it necessary and proper
to suspend this person from participation on all teams for a period of
one year, they shall do so and notify the youth in writing of this decision.
The death or serious injury to horse, a death in the members family
or serious injury to the member are examples of acceptable excuses. Proof
of injury shall require a doctors or veterinarians statement.
(B) MQHA
will appoint a Youth Advisor to accompany the team to the NEQHA Team Tournament
if the current Youth Advisor is unable to attend. The MQHA Board of Directors
will select the Team Advisor.
(C) All team
members are responsible to the Team Advisor. Everyone on the team must
abide by rules they set up.
(D) Team
members shall at all times conduct themselves in a becoming manner. Each
members actions reflect on all MQHYA members and the state in general.
Conduct unbecoming to the team or state in general, is cause for dismissal
from the team by the team advisor.
(E) When
the team is selected you will be competing as a team and must work together.
(F) The team
outfits and uniforms shall be chosen by the executive board of MQHYA and
approved by the Youth Advisor and the MQHA Board of Directors.
